Fair Trade Breakfast
Tracy Mitchell is the face of Fair Trade in St Silas, for many years organising the Fair Trade stall in church and Breakfasts like today’s.
Tracy, what generally happens at a Fair Trade Breakfast?
People can expect there to be lots of lovely fair trade food available such as muesli, bananas and geo bars. Toast is made to order with Fair Trade peanut butter spread, marmalade, etc. and Fair Trade tea, coffee and juice. It is a chance to sit and chat over a lovely breakfast and buy things from various Fair Trade stalls on hand and lots of info available on what’s going on with Fair Trade around the world.
Why do we do it?
We are a Fairtrade Church and part of our commitment to that is promoting Fair Trade, particularly during Fairtrade Fortnight. Also, now that we have been doing this for so many years I find the breakfasts a fairly easy thing to organise with 4 or 5 people in the kitchen, some more to man our stall. We now aim to have two a year, one around Fairtrade Fortnight and one combined with the Christmas fair.
Not only is Fair Trade is part of our commitment to justice but it also provides an opportunity for people to bring friends to a social event in church.
If anyone would like to get involved or have ideas of how to promote Fair Trade please contact Tracy.
