Vestry Business Report Feb
Church Lighting:
Installation of the new lighting system is expected to start in the week beginning 23 February.
Â
Staff salaries:
We considered staff salaries and pensions, and agreed increases for the financial year 2009-2010.
Â
Building for the Future - New Hall Project:
Following the Gift Day on 25 January, a further £110,000 has been pledged in gifts and interest-free loans, for which we are most grateful. Pledges are still being received. On the basis of what has been given and promised so far, it would require a substantial bank loan to meet the anticipated cost of the new Hall. We continue to pray for God's provision for the project and for His wisdom and guidance, and we ask the congregation to continue to pray with us. Meanwhile we are evaluating how the repayments on a loan might affect future budgets.
Â
Mission and Outreach:
Giving to Missions. We donate 20% of general church income (about £45.000) to organisations and individuals involved in mission. Currently St Silas has 12 sets of missionary partners, and we also give to 7 other organisations with which we have links. The allocation to each of them was discussed, and will be finalised at a later meeting.
Local Outreach. We also reviewed the many local outreach activities of the church and of individual church members.
Â
Ministry Report:
Church office hours: Ruth, the Church Administrator, will be working on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in future.
Lent: Sermons at morning services will focus on Spiritual Disciplines. We are encouraged to set Wednesdays as days of prayer and fasting. It is suggested that we fast until 6pm or the time of our evening meal.
