A Breath of Fresh Air, UPDATE
A Breath of Fresh Air - St Silas at the Gibson Street Gala (Sunday 17th June)
Wow - what a day this was! We had the privilege of welcoming more than 1000 people into the church, and served many more with free tea, coffee and fair trade goodies outside during our two-hour evacuation period (due to a power cut!). Our face painters painted the faces of many children, and rather a few adults. Our chess master was challenged several times but remains unbeaten. The children were kept busy in the games room listening to stories, bouncing on the bouncy castle, or being mesmerised by the 'bubble man' and his gigantic bubbles. The prayer team were also able to pray with people. Visitors were also provided with the opportunity to throw sponges at our rector, David McCarthy (not sure how many people did this exactly, but I'm guessing from David's point of view it felt like rather a lot!), and other very serving volunteers in the team. We were even blessed with pretty good weather! Many thanks to everyone who helped with this event in one way or another, and to all those who came along - it was great to be able to welcome you, and we hope to see you again soon.
